Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with Melinda Simmons, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Ukraine.

First of all, the Verkhovna Rada Chairman focused on yet another terrible crime of Russia – blowing up the Kakhovka HPP dam. He emphasized that the Russian Federation must answer for all crimes committed in accordance with international law, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informs.

The parties also discussed the Euro-Atlantic future of Ukraine.

"We need specific timeline conditions and a way to join NATO," Stefanchuk noted, stressing that Ukraine adheres to the values and principles of NATO and fulfills the main task of the Alliance's army, protecting its eastern countries from the Russian invasion.

"We want to have a road map by which we will move towards both the European Union and NATO, making this way with honor," said the Speaker of the Parliament.

In addition, he called on Great Britain to adopt a document on supporting Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic path. Such decisions have already been adopted by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Stefanchuk also thanked the House of Commons for recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people. This is an important decision to establish historical justice, he said.

The Verkhovna Rada Chairman also thanked Britain for the military, humanitarian and political assistance provided.

As reported, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP on June 6. The plant was completely destroyed as an engine room was blown up from the inside. Evacuation of the population from potential flooding areas has begun.
