State Department: US watching decisions China makes regarding Russia’s requests for security assistance

The United States is closely monitoring the decisions made by the Chinese government to ensure that Beijing does not help Moscow obtain weapons or military equipment and evade sanctions.

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said this at a briefing, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“We are watching very closely the decisions that the PRC makes when it comes to any Russian requests for security assistance,” he said.

The U.S. State Department spokesperson reminded that Russia was forced to turn to Iran and the DPRK for security assistance precisely because countries of the West “are starving the Russian state of the inputs that it needs to prosecute its war against Ukraine”.

He stressed that the U.S. side conveyed a very clear message to China, “including in private, when the two presidents met in Bali last November”. According to him, China will face serious consequences if they decide “to assist Russia in a systematic effort to evade U.S. sanctions or in the provision of security assistance that would then be used against the Ukrainian people in Ukraine”.
