President Zelensky: It is important that Crimea’s recapture started in people’s minds

The recapture of Crimea has started with the desire and readiness of people.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with France’s TF1 and LCI, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The operation itself has not started yet. When it begins, you will hear about it. I believe the recapture of Crimea has started in people’s minds. It is very important. In our inner desire. It is very important. In the tenacity of citizens, in the unity in relation to this. Not just in the words ‘Crimea is Ukraine’. We need to be ready to go, because no one will just give it up. That is why recapture always begins with society, with desire and readiness. Thus, I believe there is a beginning,” Zelensky told.

Regarding the dual attitude in the West to Ukraine’s intention to bring Crimea back, in particular their thesis of ‘not irritating’ the Kremlin, Zelensky believes that Putin’s decision to use nuclear weapons at some point would not depend on whether the President of Ukraine and Ukrainian society want to bring Crimea back or not.

“If Putin wants to use nuclear weapons, he will use them. Just as he promised Macron, Merkel – everyone – that there would be no full-scale invasion of Ukraine… You simply cannot trust people who say something but act as they personally decided… He acts the way, which is beneficial to him, not the Russian Federation… Hence, the use of any weapons depends only on the strength of Ukraine’s unity with Europe, the United States, the entire world. When he sees this strength, he will not use anything,” the President of Ukraine stressed.

According to Zelensky, if support for Ukraine weakens, Russia may be able to use any weapons.
