As Ukraine celebrates Vyshyvanka Day on May 19, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has put on a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt as a sign of support and solidarity with Ukraine.

That's according to the Facebook page of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"Today we honor the Ukrainian culture by celebrating Vyshyvanka Day. People are invited to wear a traditional Ukrainian cloth embroidered with ethnic patterns – known as 'Vyshyvanka' – every third Thursday of May as a symbol of unity and national identity. What started 16 years ago with a few students dressing up in traditionally embroidered outfit, is today a tradition followed by Ukrainian people and their friends worldwide. In these difficult times, let's keep Ukraine's culture and traditions vibrant!" the post reads.

The photo of Ursula von der Leyen wearing a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt was also published.

"President Ursula von der Leyen is wearing a traditional Ukrainian Vyshyvanka in support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine," the EU Delegation to Ukraine wrote.
