Russia unable to fully supply Crimea with fuel by ferry – Ukrainian Navy spokesperson
Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said this on Ukrainian television, when asked about the current fuel shortage situation in occupied Crimea and whether Russia could solve the problem by transporting fuel via ferries.
"The main ferries that could deliver large quantities of fuel supplies were rail ferries, and none of them are currently operational following strikes by Ukraine's Defense Forces. Yes, there are still conventional ferries. There are several of them, and they can also be used, but the volume is completely different. At the same time, such transportation across the so-called Crimean Bridge has not been confirmed so far. There is no confirmed information that the enemy has decided to do that," he said.
Pletenchuk noted that Russian occupation forces in Crimea are supplied with fuel differently from the civilian population.
"I would also remind you that under international humanitarian law, meeting the needs of the population in occupied territories is solely the responsibility of the occupying power that seized that territory. As for the military, of course, they have their own supply channels. But in any case, it will be quite difficult for them, considering that their main logistics routes – which run through the occupied parts of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions – are currently under attack," he said.
The spokesperson added that Russian forces currently have certain fuel reserves in Crimea. However, significant difficulties with fuel deliveries and supply could arise there in the future.
