The fifth package of the European Union’s sanctions against Russia will close the loopholes for circumventing restrictions that were identified over the past month.

"As of now, the European Union imposed four packages of sanctions. In parallel, their application is assessed daily, and gaps are identified. And the fifth package of sanctions that will be adopted soon ... will eliminate a huge bloc of loopholes, identified over the past month, which the Russian Federation used to circumvent the sanctions," Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said on the air of the nationwide telethon on April 2, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Kuleba noted that he and President Volodymyr Zelensky talked to foreign ministers and leaders of countries that Russia tried to use to circumvent sanctions.

According to Ukraine’s top diplomat, American and British partners also communicate with them, explaining the consequences of circumventing the sanctions.

"I can't reveal the details, but I will say that we have closed many such ways at the political level," he said.

As reported, at a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on April 1, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called on partners to announce another package of sanctions against Russia.
