Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he hopes that the Trilateral Contact Group at its meeting today will make progress on a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, a detainee exchange and the opening of entry-exit crossing points.

He said this at a joint briefing with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Kyiv on Wednesday, December 8, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We are doing all we can to stop the war as soon as possible, as well as to return our people and territories. Even now, as we meet, the Trilateral Contact Group is holding its meeting. I would like to believe we will find a way out of at least three issues," Zelensky said.

He said these issues included the return to the ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners and the opening of entry-exit crossing points.

Zelensky also said that in government-controlled areas all checkpoints are ready to operate but remain closed in non-government-controlled areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
