Issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO should be resolved immediately - Zelensky

Ukrinform
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the issue of Ukraine's joining NATO should be resolved immediately, as the country is in danger right now.

Zelensky stated this in an interview with the Axios news website, according to Ukrinform.

"I think that if we are welcome in NATO, if they really want to see us as a member, then it's no use looking into the binoculars, into some distant future and discussing this future. The issue should be resolved immediately. We are in danger right now, our independence is at stake right now, and it is now that we need help," Zelensky said.

He added that Ukraine could have already received a NATO Membership Action Plan. Although this plan is "not the membership yet," but it is "a real vision of Ukraine as a part of NATO in the foreseeable future."

Zelensky noted that he personally believes that Ukraine will eventually join NATO, but, in his opinion, many Ukrainians "increasingly don't believe this as strongly as they used to."

Earlier, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna said she was sure that the issue of granting Ukraine a NATO Membership Action Plan would be on the agenda of the NATO summit on June 14 and said she expected strong messages for the country.
