Ukrainian parliament observes moment of silence for COVID-19 victims

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has observed a moment of silence for those who died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal declared the moment of silence while speaking from the parliament's rostrum during a government question-and-answer session on Wednesday, May 13, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The situation with coronavirus in the world and in Ukraine remains difficult. Fourteen people have died from coronavirus in Ukraine over the past 24 hours. In total, 439 people, including 23 health workers, have died. I propose observing a moment of silence for people who died of coronavirus in Ukraine and in the world," he said.

Lawmakers and government members present at the meeting stood up and commemorated those who died of COVID-19.

Ukraine has recorded 16,425 cases of COVID-19 as of May 13, including 402 new cases in the past 24 hours.

Over 4.342 million people in the world were infected with COVID-19 as of May 13. Some 292,893 people died and 1,602,443 recovered.
