
Ihor Kalinin appointed SBU chief
President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine has appointed Ihor Kalinin the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The relevant decree was posted on the official website of the President.
Kalinin previously worked as head of the State Guard Office.
Earlier, the President fired Valeriy Khoroshkovsky as head of the Security Service, appointing him Minister of Finance at the Cabinet of Ministers of Mykola Azarov instead of the dismissed Fedir Yaroshenko.
Kalinin was born December 28, 1959 in the village of Raevoe, Mytishchi district of Moscow region.
In 1981 he graduated from the Moscow Higher Command School of Road and Engineering Troops.
He started his career in KGB. Candidate of Military Sciences on Intelligence and Foreign Armies.
From 2002 to 2005 he acted as head of SBU General Directorate 'A', Centre for Special Training.
He was awarded the Red Star Order.
Since April 2010 Kalinin worked as head of the State Guard Office.
