Shakhtar player Maicon killed in road accident

KYIV, February 8 /Ukrinform/. Shakhtar Donetsk player Maicon, who spent the autumn part of the Ukrainian Premier League at Illichivets Mariupol, was killed in a road accident in Donetsk early on Saturday, Shakhtar's press service has reported.

"FC Shakhtar regretfully informs that on February 8, 2014 the life of a footballer Maicon Pereira de Oliveira tragically ended. He died in a car crash in Donetsk. He was a talented footballer, open and friendly guy. Maicon loved life and knew how to make it positive and bright. Tragic, untimely and absurd death took away a wonderful person from our ranks. Maicon was only 25 years old," reads the statement.

Maicon played for Brazil's Flamengo, Fluminense and Alagoinhas Atletico. He has played in Ukraine since 2009 - for Volyn, Shakhtar, Zoria and Illichivets.
