France allocates €7 million for improvement of housing for residents of Mariupol

The correspondent of Ukrinform was informed about this by the Mariupol City Council.

It is noted that today, May 16, the Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boychenko, and the Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Etienne de Ponsen, visited a pilot social dormitory for internally displaced persons from Mariupol in Dnipro.

It was announced as part of the second stage of the "I Am Mariupol. Housing" program, two more dormitories for temporarily displaced persons will be renovated in Dnipro.

"The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Etienne de Ponsen, stated that Paris, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, will allocate 7 million euros for the renovation and equipping of social dormitories for the residents of Mariupol," the statement reads.

According to Boychenko, thanks to the implementation of the second stage of the "I Am Mariupol. Housing" project, an additional 333 apartments will be provided for the residents of Mariupol in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

In turn, Etienne de Ponsen emphasized that France has been closely following the events unfolding in Mariupol with a heavy heart and is trying to provide assistance wherever possible.

According to reports, the aggression by Russia has caused one of the largest humanitarian catastrophes in Mariupol. The city has been almost 90% destroyed due to enemy shelling.

In Mariupol, 57,000 families have been left without housing, affecting nearly 200,000 local residents.
