Shmyhal discusses restoration of critical infrastructure with U.S. Secretary of Transportation

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, who is on a working visit to Washington, D.C., discussed the restoration of the critical infrastructure of our country with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

"I spoke with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg about the restoration of critical infrastructure. Logistics is an important aspect of the economy, so we develop western routes. We launch concession to attract private companies. Barrier-free environment and build back better are cross-cutting aspects of reconstruction," Shmyhal posted on Telegram.

The Prime Minister noted that he had substantively discussed economic empowerment with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The parties focused on programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises, the development of processing and logistics. Shmyhal called for the imposition of sanctions on Russia's nuclear industry.

"The USA will continue to stand side by side with Ukraine in the fight for freedom and democratic values," the Prime Minister added.

He also noted that strengthening economic stability, recovery, and sanctions against Russia are the key topics of each of his meetings in the United States.

As reported, the Head of Government is on a working visit to Washington, D.C. He took part in the annual Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund. Shmyhal met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin III, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, and the IMF management. The PM is scheduled to meet with representatives of the World Bank and the European Investment Bank.

On April 11, the Head of Government paid a working visit to Canada where he met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Finance of Canada Chrystia Freeland.
