The GTS operator of Ukraine and the Romanian operator TRANSGAZ signed a technical agreement, according to which Ukraine will be able to transport gas from Southern Europe and Turkey from January 1, 2020.

“Yesterday,  Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine and TRANSGAZ signed the interconnection technical agreement on cooperation under the EU rules. This means that suppliers will be able to transport gas without impediment from Southern Europe and Turkey – via Bulgaria and Romania – to Ukraine and then to Moldova,” NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

Thus, it will be possible to transport up to 17.8 million cubic meters of gas per day on Ukraine-Romania route and 15.8 million cubic meters in the opposite direction through the interstate point “Isakcha1-Orlovka1” starting from January 1.

"These are not only new opportunities for Ukrainian traders but also a guarantee of Moldova's access to the Southern Europe gas markets if Gazprom terminates its transit through Ukraine," the company stated.

As reported, the Government of Ukraine instructed Naftogaz of Ukraine to take measures to ensure gas exports to Moldova without the participation of Russia’s Gazprom. This is stated in the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 921-r of September 29, 2019.

At the end of November, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., JSC Ukrtransgaz and LLC Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine agreed on the terms of cooperation in the interconnection points of gas transmission systems of Ukraine and Poland — Hermanowice and Drozdovychi — from January 1, 2020.
