Government approves program for development of local roads until 2024

"Today, I will present an additional strategy for the development of roads of territorial importance for 2020-2024, which will be a logical addition to the strategy for 2018-2020. Territorial roads make up almost half of roads of local importance - over 46%, which is 22,000 kilometers. Most of these roads were built in the 1970s and have not been repaired since then," Nowak said at a government meeting on Friday.

He noted that a new technology using concrete and industrial waste would be applied for the construction of such roads and that this would require the introduction of amendments to state construction standards.

"We have prepared the second stage of decentralization - the law on the transfer of territorial roads to the management of local authorities, but we want to transfer not a problem but roads in good condition," Nowak added.
