Import of agricultural products into Ukraine increased by $200 million this year due to supplies from EU

"According to the State Statistics Service, in January-September of 2017, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth $3.2 billion. The import of agricultural products for 9 months of this year increased by $0.2 billion compared to the same period of 2016 mainly due to an increase in the volume of supplies from the EU countries," Deputy Director of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics" Mykola Puhachov stated.

"Ukraine imports agricultural products mainly from the EU countries. In January-September of 2017, Ukraine purchased almost 50% of all agricultural and food products in the region totaling $1.581 billion," he said.

The volume of agricultural supplies from Asian countries for 9 months of 2017 amounted to $626 million, from Latin America - $282 million, from the countries of Africa - $167 million.

The import from the United States was $145 million.

The lowest volume of purchases of agricultural products was from the CIS countries. For January-September of 2017, domestic imports from this region amounted to $100 million, Mykola Puhachov said.
