Fuel depot on fire in Penza, Russia, after drone attack

In the Russian city of Penza, a fire broke out at a fuel depot on Friday morning, January 23, as a result of a drone attack.

According to Ukrinform, the Russian service of the BBC reported this in an article, citing a statement by Oleg Melnikov, governor of Penza region.

Melnikov said the fire at the facility started at around 04:00 local time on Friday. According to him, there were no fatalities or injuries.

Later, the regional head stated that four drones had allegedly been intercepted by air defense systems, adding that debris from one of the drones fell onto the territory of the fuel depot, triggering the fire. Emergency services continued to work at the scene, he added.

Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that on the night into Friday, 12 drones were allegedly shot down over five Russian regions: seven drones over Belgorod region, two over Voronezh region, and one UAV each over Bryansk, Penza, and Astrakhan regions.

As reported by Ukrinform, on January 10 a fuel depot in Russia's Volgograd region caught fire following a drone attack.
