Sybiha responds to Orban over his statement on Russia's war against Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, Sybiha wrote about this on X.
Earlier, Orban said that it was "unclear who attacked whom" in the war between Ukraine and Russia. His statement came amid an EU decision on further financial support for Kyiv over the coming years.
"They calmly have breakfast at home, drink their coffee and think how morally right it is to help a small country that has been attacked, though it's not so small, and it's not clear who attacked whom, but in any case, we are now helping a country that has been subjected to violence, and it costs us nothing. But in the end, they will pay," Orban said.
"Just as 'not clear' as it was for Hungaryʼs leadership in 1939," Sybiha wrote.
In this way, Sybiha drew a historical parallel with the period of World War II, when Hungary fought on the side of Nazi Germany.
As Ukrinform reported, the main topic of the European Council meeting on December 18 was the issue of financing Ukraine in 2026 and 2027. The compromise reached provides for granting Ukraine an interest-free loan of EUR 90 billion to cover its most urgent financial needs during this period. The funds are planned to be raised on financial markets under guarantees from the EU's common budget.
European Council President Antonio Costa emphasized that Ukraine would repay the loan provided by the European Union using frozen Russian assets only after Russia pays reparations.
