Russian army attempts to seize small settlements on way to Kostiantynivka – Tregubov

Currently, Russian forces are attempting to capture small settlements on the road to Kostiantynivka. Their task of seizing Kostiantynivka is complicated by the fact that they have so far failed to take Chasiv Yar and Toretsk.

Spokesperson for the Operational Strategic Group Dnipro, Viktor Tregubov, said this on television in response to a question about enemy movements around Kostiantynivka and the situation near the village of Stupochky, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“As for the area around Kostiantynivka and Stupochky—there, the Russians are rather trying to maneuver. They are trying to target small settlements, to entrench themselves and then build some kind of base, a springboard for further offensives. At the moment, this is not working out very well for them,” he stated.

According to the spokesperson, Russia’s problem lies in its failure to fully seize Chasiv Yar and Toretsk.

“The Russians have not achieved these objectives, and without them, advancing on Kostiantynivka has become somewhat more difficult than they anticipated. That is why they are trying to occupy smaller settlements on the way to the city. But they are already encountering Ukrainian resistance,” Tregubov noted.

He added that the situation is currently difficult for both sides.

Answering a question about the so-called “grey zone” in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the spokesperson said that overall, it is relatively open terrain, which Russian forces try to penetrate daily to reach Ukrainian territory.

“The problem is that the Dnipropetrovsk region is fairly open, so it may be less convenient for the Russians to push forward there compared to areas with more tree lines or denser development. Still, there are tree lines, and they are using them,” he explained. At the same time, he added that the Russians have little time left to exploit this advantage, as weather conditions will soon change.

Tregubov noted that, overall, Russian attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region are quite frequent and mostly come from the border with Donetsk region.

“There are also attempts to consolidate positions, with varying degrees of success,” the spokesperson said.
