Ukraine expects 19th EU sanctions package to deal severe blow to Russia – Zelensky

Ukraine hopes that the European Union’s 19th sanctions package will force Russia to feel the consequences of its actions and serve as one of the decisive measures to push it toward peace.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

The President stressed that Russia must face the consequences of its behavior. Sufficient countermeasures are needed to compel it to peace.

“That can be achieved with adequate strength of our army, our long-range strike capabilities, and strong sanctions and pressure against Russia,” Zelensky noted.

At present, Ukraine is fending off Russian attacks almost daily. Over the past week alone, there were more than 1,500 strike drones, over 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types. These weapons contained thousands of foreign components—more than 132,000—from countries across Europe, America, China, Japan, and dozens of others.

According to Zelensky, all of these technologies enable Russia to manufacture weapons on a large scale.

“All for the sake of terror against our people. If Russia is not stopped, this will surely become a threat to the countries of Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Strong sanctions are an instrument that will help stop this. We must cut off all possible supply routes and means of evading sanctions, and exert pressure on the countries and individual companies that aid them,” the President emphasized.

He added that partners possess the strength needed to safeguard lives.

“We count on the 19th EU sanctions package to be truly painful, and on the United States to join the Europeans,” Zelensky concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Friday, September 19, the European Commission approved the new 19th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
