Drones strike sanctioned semiconductor plant in Russia – media

A drone strike targeted a sanctioned semiconductor plant in Russia's Oryol region overnight.

That is according to BBC News Russian, Ukrinform reports.

Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that 127 drones were shot down over nine regions and the Black Sea between the night of May 20 and the morning of May 21, later reporting the destruction of an additional 32 UAVs.

According to the ministry, 53 drones were downed over the Oryol region, 51 over the Bryansk region, and 37 over the Kursk region. Others were intercepted over the Moscow, Vladimir, Ryazan, Belgorod, Tula, and Kaluga regions, as well as over the Black Sea.

Despite the official claims, social media users reported that drones struck a facility in the town of Bolkhov, Oryol region — allegedly the Bolkhov Semiconductor Devices Plant.

Oryol Governor Andrey Klychkov and Tula Governor Dmitry Milyaev both stated that there were no casualties or destruction resulting from the attacks.

According to Mediazona, the Bolkhov Semiconductor Devices Plant manufactures components for military equipment and is under U.S. sanctions.

The Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsia announced the temporary closure of Kaluga airport during the night, with similar measures later imposed in two other regional centers — Yaroslavl and Kostroma.

Russian Telegram channels reported that late Tuesday evening, residents of Aleksin in the Tula region heard six explosions, followed by a widespread disruption of mobile communications and internet service.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, confirmed that drones targeted Russia's military-industrial complex during the night, including facilities in the Oryol region.
