Aerial reconnaissance teams with the 14th separate regiment of uncrewed systems in cooperation with a jet artillery unit, hit three North Korean Koksan self-propelled artillery systems in Kursk region.

That’s according to the Unmanned Systems Forces Command, Ukrinform reports.

"The artillery systems, which the Russian army received as military aid from North Korea, were camouflaged in a forest strip. For additional protection from FPV drones, the enemy installed so-called ‘grills’," the report noted.

Drone operators discovered the self-propelled howitzers and spotted the fire of Ukrainian rocket artillery, which employed high-explosive and cluster warheads.

This is the second successful strike targeting the Koksans in the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Previously, such system was destroyed by operators from the 412th NEMESIS Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces in Luhansk region just a month ago.

The M1978 Koksan self-propelled howitzer is longest-range artillery system in service with the North Korean army. It is fitted with a 170-mm gun with a firing range of up to 60 km.

When designed, the key requirement was to make sure it is capable of hitting Seoul from the north of the demilitarized zone.

Now the Russian Armed Forces are using the system in the war effort against Ukraine, trying to compensate for devastating artillery losses.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, as of 16:00 on March 18, a total of 76 combat clashes had taken place between Ukrainian defenders and Russian troops as fighting is still underway in six axes, with the enemy attacking most intensely in Kursk region.
