Identity of decapitated Ukrainian soldier confirmed, police investigation underway

The identity of the Ukrainian serviceman who was decapitated by Russians and depicted in widely circulated images has been preliminarily established.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, Artur Dobroserdov, on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.

He stated that the National Police has already been informed. Law enforcement officers will contact the soldier’s relatives and conduct investigative actions to determine the circumstances of the incident, establish the location of the body, and gather other crucial details.

Regarding this latest blatant violation of international humanitarian law by Russia, the Office of the Prosecutor General has also been informed.

Dobroserdov urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to rely solely on official sources.

As previously reported, hostile media outlets have published images showing a Ukrainian serviceman with a severed head, which have been widely circulated online.

In addition, citing the translated materials of foreign media outlets is possible only if there is a link to the website ukrinform.net and the website of a foreign media outlet. Materials marked as "Advertisement" or with a disclaimer reading "The material has been posted in accordance with Part 3 of Article 9 of the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising" No. 270/96-VR of July 3, 1996 and the Law of Ukraine "On the Media" No. 2849-Х of March 31, 2023 and on the basis of an agreement/invoice.
