Over the past 24 hours, 17 firefights unfolded with Russian occupation forces in the Bakhmut area. Ukraine’s defense forces killed 92 Russian forces and wounded another 156.

That’s according to Serhiy Cherevatyi, the spokesman for the Eastern Group of Forces, who spoke at the national telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Over the past day, 17 firefights took place in the Bakhmut direction, in which the enemy had 92 of their soldiers killed and 156 wounded. Also, two enemy infantry vehicles, five artillery installations, a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer, five unmanned aerial vehicles, and 13 ammunition depots were destroyed," said spokesman.

He emphasized that Bakhmut remains the priority target for the aggressor. In addition to the Wagner Group deployed in the area, the Russians are bringing in airborne assault and motorized rifle units, maintaining high fire pressure on Ukraine’s positions.

Throughout the day, the Russian invaders shelled Ukraine’s defense positions 414 times, employing barrel and jet artillery.

Answering the question of why Russian propaganda is actively spreading reports about the capture of Bakhmut, Cherevatyi noted that it is important for the Russians to launch this information wave in the wake of their failure to capture the district center over the past 9.5 months.

"On the background of this, they need to showcase at least some kind of trophy," he noted.

According to the spokesperson for the Eastern Group of Forces, Ukrainian units are stationed in the southwestern part of Bakhmut, defending the area and preventing the enemy from capturing Ukraine’s positions.
