IAEA chief discusses safety of Zaporizhzhia NPP in Kaliningrad

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, met with Russian officials in Kaliningrad to discuss the safety of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Grossi announced this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"I met high level officials from several Russian agencies today in Kaliningrad. I continue my efforts to protect the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant," Grossi wrote.

According to the IAEA chief, his recent visit to ZNPP confirmed "the urgent need to achieve this vital objective, which is in everyone's interest."

Last week, Grossi visited ZNPP and stated that the situation had deteriorated and military activity around the facility had increased in recent months.

The IAEA chief will visit Moscow to discuss the situation at ZNPP, Russian news agencies reported earlier.

As reported, on March 29, Grossi arrived at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant captured by the Russian occupiers to assess its safety.

The IAEA experts have been working at the Zaporizhzhia NPP captured by the Russians permanently since September 2022.

Russian military captured ZNPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, on March 4. Since then, the invaders have deployed military equipment and ammunition at the plant, shelling the surrounding area.
