Massive attack on Kherson: Health Ministry briefs on civilian injuries

Health Minister of Ukraine Viktor Liashko got acquainted with how Kherson's healthcare system copes with the admission of civilians injured in attacks and spoke about the injuries people received in today’s Russian attack on the city center.

"Constant shelling. Many injured, several killed. I looked at how the healthcare system of de-occupied Kherson copes with the admission of injured in the constant terrorist shelling of the city," Liashko posted on Facebook.

According to him, the survivors of the terrorist attack on Kherson on December 24 have penetrating abdominal traumas, head injuries of various degrees, eye injuries, and lower-limb amputations.

"Intimidation, destruction of infrastructure, killed and maimed people – the whole essence of Russian terror," the minister emphasized and thanked the medical staff of Kherson region for their efforts.

In turn, the press service of the Health Ministry notes that hospitals have received ambulances, 32 generators, oxygen stations, X-ray machines, pressure wound therapy systems, patient monitors, defibrillators, refrigerators, and laboratory equipment have been provided since the beginning of the year and after the de-occupation of the territories of Kherson region. In total, 284 units of medical equipment and devices have been delivered and distributed here since the beginning of the full-scale war. Additional equipment is expected to be delivered in the near future.

"To date, thanks to the cooperation of local self-government bodies and with the help of the state budget, World Bank projects, the Global Fund, and funds from the UNITED24 account, a significant amount of equipment has been purchased for Kherson region so that hospitals could respond to the challenges provoked by Russia’s full-scale invasion and promptly provide the necessary health care.

As reported, on the morning of December 24, Russian troops struck Kherson city center. Currently, it is known that eight citizens were killed and 58 more were injured.
