Duda: Russia's crimes in Ukraine show signs of genocide
"Kyiv, like all of Ukraine, has become a symbol of protection of our common values, freedom, sovereignty and democracy. For a week now, Ukraine has been resisting the occupiers, paying the highest price. Attacks on houses, schools and hospitals, and numerous attacks by Russian troops show signs of genocide. I believe that they will not go unpunished, and their perpetrators will be held accountable at international tribunals," President of Poland Andrzej Duda said in a video address to the Polish people, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
He noted that Poland had been actively helping Ukraine since the first days, initiating the toughest West-supported sanctions.
"We are Ukraine's advocate in its efforts to become a member of the EU," Duda said.
According to him, NATO provides specific assistance to Ukraine, which protects itself from Russian aggression. He also noted that Poland had already accepted more than half a million refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.
As Duda noted, Poland is a leader in providing aid to Ukraine, and, therefore, has become the target of cynical Russian propaganda and disinformation.
He called on all political forces in Poland to be responsible and not to succumb to provocations, so as not to lead to political strife in the country. The President of the Republic of Poland stressed that the main goal now is to help Ukraine, which is fighting for independence.
On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive attacks on residential districts of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague. International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan initiated the start of investigation into the situation in Ukraine.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the support of all Ukrainian people, courageously resist the Russian aggression.
