World Bank to provide $116M to support energy resilience in seven Ukrainian cities
The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine said this in a statement posted on its website, according to Ukrinform.
"The ministry is expanding its cooperation with the World Bank to restore district heating systems and secure power supply in cities where critical infrastructure was heavily damaged by massive Russian terrorist attacks. These include Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk, and Slavuta," the statement reads.
The additional $116 million in grant funding will support the implementation of Part 2 of the Restoration Project of Winterization and Energy Resources. The funds will be used to purchase gas cogeneration units, specialized vehicles, equipment, and materials essential for the heating sector.
This agreement was reached with the World Bank under the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025.
The initial phase of cooperation with the World Bank under this project included the allocation of $47 million to provide heating services to residents of Kharkiv and prevent further destruction of critical infrastructure. Most of the energy equipment has already been delivered to the city, helping ensure a more stable heating season ahead.
Earlier reports said that the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine signed agreements, memorandums, and joint declarations on mobilizing EUR 3.55 billion in funding at the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Rome.
