Court passes sentence on case of rape victim Oksana Makar

. A panel of judges of the Central District Court in Mykolaiv on Tuesday, November 27, has pronounced a sentence on three young men who raped and burned Oksana Makar. Yevhen Krasnoshchok was sentenced to life imprisonment, Maksym Prysyazhniuk - to 15 years, and Artem Pogosian - to 14 years in prison, a UKRINFORM correspondent reported on Tuesday.

"All the three do not suffer from mental illness, so they are found guilty under Paragraphs 4, 10, 12, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code (murder), Part 4, Article 152 (rape) of the Criminal Code. In addition, Yevhen Krasnoshchok is found guilty under Part 3, Article 153 of the Criminal Code (rape in a perverted form)," said the presiding judge Olena Selivanova.

The sentence was read for more than 2 hours.

As aggravating circumstances, the defendants were charged with committing the crime while in alcoholic intoxication, there are no mitigating circumstances.

Thus, the Court has put an end to the resonant trail, which lasted for more than 6 months.

A reminder that eighteen-year-old Ukrainian Oksana Makar was raped in the southern city of Mykolaiv on March 8, 2012 by three men who tried to strangle her before setting her alight. But the girl survived, though with 55% burns.

On March 16 she was transferred to Donetsk Burn Center because of the severity of her burns and damage to her lungs. Makar underwent several operations, however, on March 28 her heart had stopped because of bleeding in her lungs and she died after repeated attempts to resuscitate her.
