Poland may begin search operations in Ukraine as early as end of March, says Alfyorov
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Oleksandr Alfyorov, stated this in a comment to Ukrinform.
“At the end of March or in April, the Polish side will begin search operations. Somewhere around that time,” Alfyorov said.
He added that the Polish side has requested conducting such operations in several settlements.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has granted permission to conduct search operations in the area of the former village of Huta Pieniacka, now within the villages of Zharkiv and Holubytsia in the Lviv region. According to the ministry, Ukraine and Poland are also planning additional research on their territories in 2026.
At the end of 2025, the Ministry of Culture already granted permission for search operations in the villages of Ostrovky and Volia Ostrovetska in Volyn, as well as for the continuation of research on the territory of the former village of Puzhnyky in the Ternopil region.
In the spring of 2026, work is planned in the village of Uhly in the Rivne region, as well as the continuation of Ukrainian research in Poland.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar said in an interview with Ukrinform that Kyiv had issued three additional permits for search-and-exhumation work on Polish victims in Ukraine (Uhly, Ostrovky, and Puzhnyky-2), and that further permits were being prepared (Huta Pieniacka).
