Multiple cultural heritage sites damaged in Odesa due to Russian strikes

As many as seven cultural heritage sites were damaged in Odesa as a result of Russian strikes, including four landmarks of national significance.

This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications (MCSC) of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

"On Thursday, July 24, as a result of a massive missile attack by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, seven cultural heritage sites in the city of Odesa were damaged, four of which are designated as monuments of national significance. These sites are located in Odesa's historic center, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The destruction caused by this attack poses a serious threat to the preservation of the city's cultural and historical heritage," the statement said.

The following sites were affected:

  • Vorontsov Palace in 2, Vorontsov Lane. A national architectural monument.
  • Palace in 9, Prymorsky Boulevard. A national architectural monument.
  • Rodokonaki House, currently home to Hotel de Versal, in 10 Prymorsky Boulevard. A national architectural monument.
  • Londonska Hotel building in 11, Prymorsky Boulevard. A national architectural monument.
  • Mishchanska Office Building in 36, Staroportofrankivska St.
  • Fruit Passage in 14, Pryvozna St.
  • Odesa-Port Station Building inn 8, Prymorska St.

The blast wave and shrapnel from the attack damaged windows, doors, building facades, roofs, inter-floor structures, and other structural elements.

As reported earlier by Ukrinform, as a result of a massive Russian drone attack overnight on July 24, a nine-story residential building in Odesa was destroyed, there is a risk of structural collapse; fires broke out at a gas station and the local Pryvoz market.
