Two veterans of the DIU's Artan and Kraken special forces, Ivan Tarn and Oleksandr Dashko, who have amputations, conquered the Himalayas as part of the Limitless charity project.

According to Ukrinform, the DIU reported this on Facebook.

In the mountains, the DIU fighters were accompanied by professional climbers Tetiana Yalovchak and Taras Pozdnyi.

The scouts shared their impressions of the expedition to the Everest base camp, located at an altitude of 5,280 meters, on the air of the national telethon.

“You see all of this in front of you, but it is hard to believe your eyes. It is as if you are looking at a very, very real photo wallpaper. It's incredibly beautiful,” said Tarn.

Participation in the project was a serious challenge for the veterans.

“Many people did not believe in this project or in me, because I have a very large amputation. No matter who I told about this adventure, they said, “People with two legs don't even go up there, and you don't have a leg anyway, you'll ruin your health even more, don't go. So it was hard for me, but this climb should be seen by other guys with amputations, they should see that there is life after amputation,” Dashko emphasized.

The goal of the project is to draw attention to the problems of amputees and raise UAH 3 million to fight phantom pain.

“Phantom pain is when you don't have a limb, but it hurts as if you do. It can hurt, it can itch, and the brain has to accept it somehow. Some guys have been suffering with this for years,” said the veterans of the DIU.

The Limitless project is being implemented jointly with the UNBROKEN Ukraine rehabilitation center.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, five Ukrainian servicemen climbed Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, after being injured and amputated.
