Bodies of 1,000 fallen returned to Ukraine

As part of repatriation efforts, the bodies (remains) of 1,000 fallen individuals have been returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, they belong to Ukrainian servicemembers.

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on Telegram.

Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions within the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations to identify the repatriated individuals.

After the identities of the deceased are established, the bodies will be handed over to their families for dignified burial.

The repatriation efforts were made possible through cooperation between the Coordination Headquarters and the Joint Center at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other institutions within Ukraine’s security and defense sector.

The Coordination Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance.

Special thanks were also extended to the personnel of the Central Directorate of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation Support, which transports the repatriated remains to designated state specialized institutions and organizes their transfer to law enforcement authorities within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to forensic medical examination institutions under the Ministry of Health.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, at the end of February, Russia returned the bodies (remains) of 1,000 fallen individuals to Ukraine as part of repatriation measures.
