Vast majority of citizens want to build their future life in Ukraine
This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Center for Political Sociology, Ukrinform reports.
According to the poll results, 89% of respondents want to build their future life in Ukraine. This concerns those who remained in Ukraine until today as the poll was not conducted among citizens who went abroad after the start of the full-scale invasion.
The younger generation more often expresses a desire to build their future abroad. The differences are statically significant, but the size of the difference between groups does not appear to be a threatening trend. A job or current financial situation estimate does not have a significant impact on the respondents' desire to build their future life in Ukraine.
The poll shows that going abroad to reunite with family is not relevant for the majority of Ukrainians. About a quarter of respondents in the central and eastern, 17% in the southern macro-regions answered that they would not like to go to their families. Sociologists believe that such a result should be interpreted not as a reluctance of these people to see their relatives but as a desire for their relatives to return to Ukraine.
Regarding the priorities of the state in post-war reconstruction, the requests of citizens are predictable: restoring economy, energy and other civilian infrastructure, houses, as well as ensuring the safety of citizens.
One of the priorities that can influence the motivation of citizens to build their future life in Ukraine is worthy of attention – the fight against corruption in government bodies which respondents mentioned most often although without a significant difference from other options in terms of the frequency of mentions.
The poll was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Center for Political Sociology using the face-to-face method on June 5-15, 2023. A total of 2,001 respondents aged 18 and older were polled in all Ukraine-controlled regions where military operations are not taking place. The maximum random sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
