European Commission allocates €100M for reconstruction of 74 Ukrainian schools – Zelenska

Currently, Ukraine is on the agenda of the European Union, its resistance to Russian aggression and European support are among the most important results and prospects.

"Usually, the Address sums up the results of the year for the European Union and outlines the prospects. Today, the most important results and prospects highlight our country, its resistance to Russian aggression, and the European support that has been and will be provided," First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska posted on Telegram after the announcement of the 2022 State of the Union Address by European Commission President von der Leyen.

Zelenska noted that she became the first foreign guest of the European Parliament at such an event. The First Lady of Ukraine said that the day before, in a conversation with the President of the European Commission, she had thanked von der Leyen for her personal leadership in granting Ukraine the EU candidate status.

"She supported this step, and this step supported us, Ukrainians. Because it is very important to have a vision of the future and inspiring prospects in times of trials," the First Lady noted.

Zelenska also added that she discussed many issues with Ursula von der Leyen, including the needs of Ukrainians abroad and at home, treatment of civilians and military personnel in other countries, assistance in prosthetics, psychological rehabilitation for all Ukrainians, education and its availability for Ukrainian youth.

"Ursula von der Leyen has just announced the decision of the European Commission to allocate 100 million euros for the reconstruction of 74 Ukrainian schools within the framework of the Fast Recovery Plan. These institutions must be rebuilt before the winter comes. A specific plan has been prepared for each school," Zelenska noted.
