The Spanish town of Fuentes de Andalucía in the province of Seville has been renamed into Ukraine at the request of local authorities for the duration of Holy Week to express solidarity with Ukraine amid the Russian armed aggression.

The relevant statement was made by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The current initiative has been implemented at the request of local residents, who decided to express solidarity with the Ukrainian people amid the Russian armed aggression this way,” the report states.

Some streets in Fuentes de Andalucía will also bear the names of Ukrainian cities during Holy Week, namely Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kherson and Odesa.

In addition, the municipal authorities initiated a humanitarian aid program for Ukraine and are ready to receive 25 Ukrainian citizens, fleeing the war and seeking asylum in Spain.
