Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the State Border Guard Service has recorded more than 70 deaths during attempts to cross the border illegally.

This was reported by State Border Guard Service spokesman Andrii Demchenko in a comment to Ukrinform.

“Since the start of the full-scale invasion and during the restrictions on leaving Ukraine since February 2022, we have recorded more than 70 deaths when men took ill-advised steps to cross the border illegally,” Demchenko said.

The State Border Guard Service spokesman added that most of these cases were recorded in 2023 and 2024. “Most often, people died while trying to cross the border along river sections,” he stressed.
