The Center for Countering Disinformation will help effectively identify manipulations and fakes disseminated by the aggressor country, Minister for Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko has said.

"Our ministry is working on the launch of the Center for Combating Disinformation, which will help effectively detect manipulations and fakes disseminated by the aggressor country. The selection of the team is already underway," Tkachenko wrote on his Facebook page.

He noted that the center's main areas would include detection, response, counteraction, spread of knowledge, and communication projects. The center will also monitor fakes, distorted information, hostile propaganda and inform Ukrainians about it.

According to him, another important component is to increase the media literacy of Ukrainian citizens so that people themselves could learn how to check information, filter it and distinguish fakes from real news.

"It is also planned to cooperate with fact-checking organizations in Ukraine to synchronize actions and unite efforts to promptly counter Russian propaganda. We will also take into account the experience of countries where similar centers are already operating: EUvsDisinfo (the European Union), the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (Latvia), etc.," Tkachenko wrote.

He noted that in the future the Center for Countering Disinformation may become an international hub that will focus efforts on countering disinformation and propaganda.

"I hope for further productive cooperation in this matter with other executive bodies: the NSDC [National Security and Defense Council], the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation," Tkachenko added.

The Center for Countering Disinformation is to start operating in Ukraine in March.
