Ukraine closes entry-exit checkpoints on border with temporarily occupied Crimea until August 30

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a decision to temporarily suspend the operation of checkpoints to enter and leave the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol from 08:00 on August 9 till 08:00 on August 30.

"An extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine took place today. The Government has approved a decision to temporarily suspend the operation of checkpoints to enter and leave the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol," Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Nemchinov posted on Facebook after the extraordinary Cabinet’s meeting on August 8.

The decision was made following the instruction of the President of Ukraine to review the regime of operation of checkpoints on administrative border with temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The decision is aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine.

The operation of entry-exit checkpoints on Ukraine’s administrative border with the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol is suspended from 08:00 on August 9 till 08:00 on August 30 except for the passage of citizens of Ukraine and members of their families, whose place of residence is duly registered in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea or Sevastopol, as well as their vehicles, cargo, and other property, who enter Ukraine; citizens of Ukraine and members of their families, whose place of residence is duly registered outside the Autonomous Republic of Crimea or the city of Sevastopol, as well as their vehicles, cargo and other property, who leave Crimea; citizens who have agreed to self-isolate using the Dii Vdoma app of the unified state web portal of electronic services from the moment of crossing the checkpoints; persons who cross the administrative border with the purpose of protection of national interests or fulfillment of international obligations, representatives of diplomatic missions and humanitarian missions leaving the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as their vehicles, cargo, and other property.

"Departure from the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol of other categories of foreigners and stateless persons is carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories," Nemchinov noted.

Departure from the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and entry of Ukrainian citizens on humanitarian grounds is carried out by the decision of the Head of the State Border Guard Service in coordination with the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories.

As of August 8, Ukraine has reported 79,750 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,489 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.
