Since April, over 1.5 mln patients taken advantage of Affordable Medicines program

Since April 1, 2019, almost 1.67 million Ukrainians have taken the opportunity of the government's renewed reimbursement program Affordable Medicines.

This is stated in a press release of the National Health Service of Ukraine that has been made available to Ukrinform.

“Due to the introduction of electronic prescriptions, the updated program becomes more convenient for patients. Access to the program is expanding. Over 1.67 million patients have taken the opportunity of acquiring medicines for free or at lower prices. Within eight months, the National Health Service under the Affordable Medicines program paid off UAH 534 million,” said acting Head of the National Health Service Oksana Movchan.

According to the National Health Service, over 9.8 million prescriptions have been issued, of which 8.32 million have been already used by patients in pharmacies (84.36%). About 5,000 patients join the Affordable Medicines program every day. On average, family doctors prescribe more than 50,000 new prescriptions to their patients every day.

Also, 36% of pharmacies have already joined the program and issue medicines under electronic prescriptions, the National Health Service added.
