Law on quotas for Ukrainian-language songs comes into effect

The law on quotas for Ukrainian-language songs in the total volume of songs broadcast by Ukrainian TV and radio companies has come into effect after four months since its approval.
The law envisages that TV radio broadcasting companies are to provide on the radio at least 35% of songs in the state language out of the total volume of songs broadcast throughout the day.
At the same time, the law also permits the radio stations to broadcast 25% of songs in the Ukrainian language of the total volume of songs on the condition that they will distribute at least 60% of songs in the official languages of the European Union.
Also, a fine of 5% of the general license fee is set for the violation of this law.
