Czech experts say Middle East escalation shows conflict becoming global
This view was expressed to Ukrinform by experts from the European Values Center for Security Policy.
“This situation shows that we are indeed in a global conflict. The main battlefield between Russia and Ukraine is located in Ukraine, but the struggle is also taking place in the Middle East. Behind Russia stand China, Iran and North Korea, while behind Ukraine are European states and the United States – although, unfortunately, not sufficiently,” said Jakub Janda, director of the European Values Center for Security Policy (EVC).
Senior EVC adviser and former Czech deputy defense minister and government envoy for Ukraine Tomas Kopecny noted that was not the first time Ukraine and Russia had confronted each other far from their current battlefield.
“Russia and Ukraine have clashed beyond their current battlefield for many years, for example, in Sudan, Mali and other African countries,” the expert recalled.
At the same time, he emphasized that in the case of the Iranian war, the experience, production needs and capabilities of both countries had shaped modern warfare to such an extent that even where they do not encounter directly, their technologies intersect.
As reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this week Ukrainian teams equipped to defend against Shahed drones would arrive to assist in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. A few days ago, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed military cooperation with Russia amid the military operation by the United States and Israel in the Middle East.
