U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that during his visit to Hungary and Slovakia he will discuss the two countries' plans to stop purchasing Russian energy resources.

He stated this to journalists before departing for Munich on Thursday evening, Ukrinform reports.

When asked whether he intends to urge Hungary and Slovakia to stop purchasing Russian energy, Rubio replied: " Well, we'll have those conversations with them.  We'll talk to them about what needs to happen."

Rubio added that he would not go into details of these discussions, but noted that the two countries "are very strong with us, very cooperative with the United States, work very closely with us."

He expressed hope that he would meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference.

"I think he was going to be there, and there's a chance to see him.  I believe it's on my schedule.  I'm not 100 percent certain, but I'm sure we will," Rubio said.

As Ukrinform previously reported, during his visit to Europe from February 13 to 16, Rubio plans to visit Germany, Slovakia, and Hungary. He intends to discuss with partners what he described as a "turning point" moment for the world.
