Verkhovna Rada calls on partners to increase pressure on Russia, speed up military aid
As reported by an Ukrinform correspondent, 267 Members of Parliament supported the relevant resolution No. 15026.
In the adopted document, the Verkhovna Rada addresses the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, the parliaments and governments of UN member states, G7 countries, EU and NATO member states, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Parliament calls on international partners to strengthen economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Russia, Belarus, and other states supporting the aggression, including through the introduction of secondary sanctions and deeper isolation of the aggressor state.
The Verkhovna Rada emphasizes the need to increase and accelerate the supply of air defense systems, ammunition, and long-range weapons to Ukraine; expand defense, financial, and humanitarian assistance; transfer frozen Russian sovereign assets; and strengthen cooperation in the field of advanced military technologies. The appeal also refers to deploying a humanitarian military mission to protect civilians and critical infrastructure, as well as uniting efforts to restore the energy sector and ensure proper living conditions.
At the same time, lawmakers urge the condemnation of arms supplies to Russia by Iran and North Korea and the participation of North Korean troops in the war, call for speeding up the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression, and for ensuring full cooperation with the International Criminal Court to hold those responsible accountable.
Partners are also asked to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of war crimes and crimes against humanity within their own jurisdictions; recognize the ongoing genocide against the Ukrainian nation; support the monitoring and documentation of crimes; vet Russian citizens for involvement in them; pursue Russia’s political isolation; counter Russian propaganda; and initiate reform of the UN Security Council, including the abolition of the veto right and permanent member status.
It is expected that the implementation of the proposed measures will help unite the efforts of the international community in supporting Ukraine in countering Russia’s armed aggression.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the Verkhovna Rada also appealed to the International Olympic Committee to support the actions of Ukrainian skeleton athlete and XXV Winter Olympic Games participant Vladyslav Heraskevych regarding the use of symbolism honoring the victims of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
