Zelensky extends sanctions against Firtash and Kozak
According to Ukrinform, Zelensky stated this on Telegram.
"Today, I signed new sanctions decisions. We are synchronizing our steps with the United Kingdom and renewing sanctions that were nearing expiration," Zelensky said.
In particular, sanctions against former oligarch Dmytro Firtash have been extended, and as part of synchronization, sanctions have been applied to his close circle and companies under his control.
"All entities linked to Russia and its structures deserve to be blocked," Zelensky emphasized.
According to him, sanctions have also been extended against one of the closest associates of former oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk, namely Taras Kozak, as well as eight companies linked to him.
"Long before the start of Russia's full-scale aggression, these individuals chose Russia – and thus war. We will continue to counter every such subject," Zelensky stressed.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Firtash was arrested in Austria in 2014 but released on bail of EUR 125 million. An initial Vienna court refused his extradition, considering the case politically motivated.
In 2017, Austria's higher court reviewed the case and allowed extradition. However, a Vienna court ruled that extradition would be possible only after consideration of the defense's motion to reopen the case.
In 2022, a Vienna court rejected that motion, but the higher court approved a renewed review of the case.
In 2021, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Firtash for supplying titanium to Russian weapons manufacturers. In 2024, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against him.
In May 2023, the Bureau of Economic Security, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, exposed a large-scale scheme involving the theft of fuel from Ukraine's gas transmission system and announced suspicion against Dmytro Firtash, who had left for Austria, as well as the top management of his companies.
In June 2025, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the Austrian authorities to return Ukrainian fugitive oligarchs hiding in the country.
