US-Iran talks can happen in Ankara this week – media
The American news channel Axios stated this in an article, Ukrinform reports, citing the Turkish Institute of Strategic Thinking.
"The planned meeting is the result of diplomatic efforts by Turkey, Egypt and Qatar over the last several days… White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to meet on Friday in Istanbul," Axios reported.
According to a senior US official who spoke with Axios, the Trump administration has communicated its readiness to negotiate an agreement with Iran through various diplomatic channels. An official from one of the three intermediary countries also confirmed that the process is moving forward and everything possible is being done to ensure the talks take place.
Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, who also worked with the Trump administration on the Gaza ceasefire, aim to prevent the risk of regional war through potential US–Iran negotiations.
As Ukrinform reported, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that despite the threat of a US strike, he is confident in the possibility of reaching an agreement with Washington and preventing armed confrontation.
