German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has emphasized the need for transparency in the peace process, particularly on the part of Russia.

The head of the German government wrote about this on social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.

“Today, another round of consultations with the European and Canadian partners of the Berlin format. We are advancing the peace process. Now, transparency and honesty are needed from everyone – including from Russia,” Merz wrote.

The Chancellor initiated a meeting of leaders of several European countries, along with the leadership of the European Union and NATO, in Berlin in mid-December. The initiative became known as the “Berlin format.”
