“Important meeting organised by Chancellor Merz, to take stock of the situation in Ukraine and the latest developments in the peace negotiations. We welcome all efforts to reach a sustainable peace. The recent agreement to exchange prisoners is a welcome step forward,” Costa said.
He emphasized that the EU’s goal is to continue empowering Ukraine on the path to peace.
“We will continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine – political, military, and financial – as well as support for Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” Costa wrote.
“I will travel to Kyiv on 24 February to mark the anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression, standing by your side on Maidan Square, dear President,” he added, addressing President Zelensky.
As reported by Ukrinform, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, after the meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, stated that the EU’s goal is to ensure Ukraine can conduct peace negotiations on its own terms, from a position of strength, and with a safe, reliable, and prosperous future for its citizens within the EU.
