Poland to receive EUR 44B from EU to strengthen East Shield – Tusk
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced this ahead of a Cabinet meeting, Ukrinform reports.
He said that about EUR 44 billion will be allocated for the purchase of drones and for the East Shield project.
He added that thanks to the efforts of Polish diplomacy, the East Shield has become a project for all of Europe.
According to him, Warsaw will also invest in space projects, the development of AI in the defense sector, cyber- and cryptosecurity, as well as in the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) Baltic program.
Tusk emphasized that from the SAFE program, they will also be able to finance roads and railway lines that are directly linked to the security of the Polish state.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that EUR 43.7 billion from SAFE will be allocated to Warsaw for 140 tasks in various sectors. By the end of the week, Poland will submit its application to the European Commission for SAFE funds, after which three months of negotiations with the EC on the projects will begin.
As reported by Ukrinform, Warsaw is interested in cooperation with Paris on defense projects under the European SAFE instrument, including the procurement of tanker aircraft.
