Poland debunks fake news about medical care for Ukrainian soldiers

Ukrinform
The Polish Ministry of National Defense has dismissed as fake the narrative circulating online that Ukrainian soldiers allegedly have preferential access to medical services over Polish citizens.

The ministry stated this on X (formerly Twitter), Ukrinform reports.

"There are no laws in Poland that guarantee Ukrainian soldiers access to medical care in hospitals over Polish patients. This attempted manipulation fits into the Russian narrative, which aims to stir up negative emotions and polarize Polish society, as well as Western societies," the post reads.

Earlier, a video was circulated in the Polish information space showing Ukrainian soldiers near a hospital in the city of Stalowa Wola, Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The author of the video claimed that Ukrainian soldiers were receiving hospital care while he had been unable to get a doctor's appointment for a year. The video quickly went viral online in Poland.

Stalowa Wola district head Janusz Zarzeczny told Wirtualna Polska that the narrative is false and serves only to incite anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Poland. He explained that on that day, Ukrainian soldiers who are training at a nearby military range indeed came to the hospital for laboratory tests — but they did so on a commercial basis and have no privileges over regular Polish patients.

Zarzeczny also stressed that the hospital similarly serves soldiers from Slovakia, Norway, and France who come to the region for training.
